This Week On The Aftermath Show: 'Carriers' and Video Of The Week

This week I'll look at the DVD release of 'Carriers' a film about a group of young adults fleeing from the post pandemic that has nearly wiped out humanity. The group are heading to an isolated beach which they believe they can find shelter and security from the deadly virus and from other survivors. Also, 'Survivors' Episode 8 'Spoil Of War' is uploaded at YouTube and I''ll talk little about the episode and last 'The Road' is heading to more theaters Dec. 18th and I'll discuss anymore news on the film about the release and what people are saying about the movie.

The Road-less / Aftermath Show video of the week

Well Nov. 25th has come and gone and no theaters within a hundred miles are showing 'The Road' due to the Weinstein company pulling the advertised wide release to a limited release. Only about 2 dozen theaters are showing the film so I'm bummed but hopefully news may come that they'll come to their senses and show it at more theaters.

Happy Nuke Turkey Day

Still unable to see The Road it didn't open in my city Nov. 24th but perhaps after the holidays it'll be released widely...Some of the posts at IMDb have said they have phoned the Weinstein company and were given indications that The Road will be expanded to more markets next Tuesday. Lets hope so...anyhow just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

THE ROAD: LIMITED RELEASE?

I'm just finding out that 'The Road' is being released Nov.25th at limited cities around the United States. This is almost unimaginable since fans from all over the United States have circled Nov 25th to see the film that has been delayed for over a year. I'm in Columbia S.C. a city of half a million you can't tell me you can't show the film in at least one theater here. The film is being distributed through the Weinstein Company which has been advertising Nov. 25th since the beginning of 2008. This is very disappointing since the nearest theater that is showing the film Nov. 25th is Atlanta which is 4 hrs away.
I got this list from IMDb of cities showing 'The Road' after just learning the rug has been pulled to a limited release instead of a wide release:
Nearest theaters showing The Road on 25 November 2009 :-
Regal Tara Cinemas-Atlanta (Atlanta,GA)
Rialto Villages Town Square (The Villages,FL)
Fairfax Corner 14: Cinema de Lux (Fairfax,VA)
Regal Winter Park Village Stadium 20 (Winter Park,FL)
Regal Gallery Place Stadium 14 (Washington,DC)
Bethesda Row Cinema (Bethesda,MD)
Bow Tie Cinemas Annapolis Harbour (Annapolis,MD)
Charles (Baltimore,MD)
Cinemark Robinson Township (Pittsburgh,PA)
Regal Hollywood Stadium 20-Sarasota (Sarasota,FL)
Ritz Theatres Ritz Five (Philadelphia,PA)
Showcase Art at the Ritz Center (Voorhees,NJ)
Delray Square Cinemas (Delray Beach,FL)
Cinemark Tinsletown USA (Erie,PA)
Sunrise Cinemas Gateway (Fort Lauderdale,FL)
Regal South Beach Stadium 18 (Miami Beach,FL)
Main Art Theatre (Royal Oak,MI)
Landmark Sunshine Cinema (New York,NY)

The Wasteland Net: 'The Road' Opens in Theaters Nov. 25th

The Road opens in theaters this Wednesday Nov. 25th . This will be the most anticipated open for a post apocalyptic movie since Mad Max 2: Road Warrior from a post apocalyptic movie fans perspective. No this isn't Mad Max with cool biker barbarism and slick mohawks pillaging the wasteland. Instead 'The Road' is a completely eerie realism of the post apocalypse and the seer horror of surviving in a world that is practically dead. The trees, plants, animals and fish are all dead and whats left are a few remaining tins of food scattered in lost shelters or hidden closets in abandoned homes strewn throughout the ruined and charred countryside. Besides being the most uninhabitable environment imagined 'The Road' is occupied with bands of cannibalistic marauders that are seeking the weak, the old, and young for food and debauchery that the imagination keeps locked. Now I've only read the book four times and haven't seen the movie but from all I have seen and read about the movie it's fairly close to the book as far as story line and the post apocalyptic landscape described in the book.

Hence that the movie and book center on a father and son who are on a journey down The Road seeking the coast and maybe someplace that maybe a refuge for survival. Along the way they're always on the move and lookout like prairie dogs who at the first sign of danger duck into a hole or shelter. They do come across a few wanderers who like them are emaciated and scarred of coming into contact with strangers and then their are the gangs of semi humans who devolved into ruthless hunters and gathers of living humans so to procure sustenance to eat. It is an almost unimaginable circumstance that you see in The Road but it is the love of a father to do what ever is asked of him to protect his son and hopefully pass along the survivability instincts so his son can carry on.

Some may find this movie too much perhaps almost unbearable to watch but for the non -squeamish and fans of the post apocalyptic genre this is the closes one can come to visualizing the real desperation and survival in an Earth that has been struck down and laid to waste in the truest but almost unimaginable post apocalyptic world. Perhaps the scariest thought is the movie is opening this Thanksgiving and will I be able to look at a turkey leg the same way ever again.

The Wasteland Post...News You Can't Use.

Charlize Theron: Mad Maxine?

Could Charlize Theron be the next post apocalyptic goddess for Mad Max 4? Mad Max 3 Thunderdome was somewhat a disappointment when it was released in the eighties but the very highly popular post apocalyptic franchise is far from toast. There are rumblings in the wastelands of the outback as casting rumors that Charlize Theron maybe on board for a new Mad Max sequel. Perhaps Mad Max 4 could be coming to a shelter near you sooner than you think... Checkout this MTV article about a possible Mad Max 4...

NBC's "Day One" reduced in scope...

NBC's new anticipated post apocalyptic TV series 'DAY ONE' was slated to be a full TV Series this FALL but was slimmed down to a 4 hr mini series for early next year. Although the series has been cut down if it makes a big splash with viewers the network is prepared to move full ahead with a complete series. Could it have the making of a BSG debut?
